The Magic Kazoo 2024

Schools Tour 2024 – The Magic Kazoo

Being a kid is dangerous business! Negotiating friendship, a furious mother and anxiety about starting a new school term is, literally, a nightmare for Tamino. Luckily, he has his favourite toy, Papageno, to console him, and the power of music sets him on his way to rescue Pamina from the Kingdom of the Night. Is it a dream, or are they really awake?

Tommaso Pollio cleverly adapts Mozart’s score and performs on piano. Keaton Staszewski-Hose, James Pinneri, and Charis Postmus accompany Prudence Sanders to sing the libretto created by Penny Shaw.

The Tour

In May 2024, Freeze Frame Opera brought The Magic Kazoo to life 31 times, reaching more than 6,000 children across the Perth metropolitan area. Our school tours offer students the opportunity to experience live performances that spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and foster a deeper connection to their learning environment, thereby enriching their overall educational experience.

This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors and supporters. A heartfelt thank you to The Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Hawaiian for helping us share the magic of opera with the next generation.

Awards

The Magic Kazoo was nominated for the following PAWA awards –

  • Best Production – The Magic Kazoo
  • Outstanding Ensemble – The Magic Kazoo
  • Outstanding Performer in a Leading Role – Charis Postmus – The Magic Kazoo
  • Outstanding Newcomer – James Pinneri – The Magic Kazoo

Thank you so much for providing such an amazing experience for the students at our school. Not many children are exposed to this genre of the arts and by presenting it to them in a fun and entertaining way, ensures that they have a great first experience with opera. We loved having you at our school! Thank you for all you do for The Arts!”
